Stupid inanimate silicone chip

My computer that has run flawlessly for 3 years died over the weekend.  Not because it was it's time or anything, but because of something stupid that I did, which makes it extra crappy.

It's been a long while since I was building computers.  I'm used to processors that look something like this:

You see that little chip in the middle used to be all that touched the heat sink.  But now they look like this:
cpuInSocket_400
All that surface area plus the thermal grease for proper cooling create quite the suction.  So unbeknownst to me, the CPU came out of the socket and was stuck to the heat sink, which it isn't supposed to do.  Unfortunately, the heat sink slipped out of my fingers and landed on the CPU, bending 3 of the pins.  I tried to bend them back, but to no avail.

Now, because the computer is so old, I'm probably going to have to upgrade everything.  So I guess there is a silver lining.  I'll be getting a better computer.
